MEANS OF IDENTIFICATION REQUIRED FOR BUSINESS REGISTRATION IN NIGERIA


To register any entity (business name, company, incorporated trustees) with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in Nigeria requires the applicant to provide valid government-issued identity documents in the form of Permanent and Temporary National Identity Cards, Voter’s Cards, Driver’s Licenses.

The following are some of the valid means of identification for business registration in Nigeria:

National Identity Card (Permanent or temporary)

It is a government-issued ID card that contains your name, photograph and other personal information. You can use either a permanent or temporary National Identity Card for business registration.


 Voter’s Card

You can use your Voter’s Card as an identification document for business registration in Nigeria. This card contains details of your name, age and address. You will also need to present it when completing the application form for business registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).


Driver’s License

Your driver’s license can be used as a valid means of identification for business registration in Nigeria.


International Passport

If you have an international passport then it can be used as an identification document for business registration in Nigeria.


Birth Certificate/Affidavit of Declaration of Age

A birth certificate or an affidavit of declaration of the age of a minor can be used for business registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission.


CONCLUSION


The means of identification used must be a valid government-issued identity card. You cannot use an employee identity card, a school identity card or an expired government-issued identity card for registration.

UPDATE ON MEANS OF IDENTIFICATION THAT CAN BE USED FOR REGISTRATION WITH THE CORPORATE AFFAIRS COMMISSION CAC

The CAC through a circular that from the 1st of January 2023, the only means of identification that can be used for CAC processes (pre and post-registration) is the National Identification Number (NIN).
