HOW TO REGISTER FOR TAXPAYER IDENTIFICATION NUMBER


A taxpayer Identification Number is a unique number used for tax purposes. Every entity registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission must apply for a taxpayer identification number to open/operate a corporate account and for other tax purposes. They are many reasons why you need a TIN for your Corporate entity.

HOW TO APPLY FOR TIN

Visit the nearest tax office close to your registered business.

They are tax offices located in all the states of the federation, you can easily search for the one closest to your registered address on google or through the FIRS office search.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR TIN APPLICATION

  • Two copies of CAC registration documents
  • Utility Bill of the registered address or operating address
  • Application letter and answers to taxpayer questionnaire on the letter headed paper of the company or NGO
  • Application letter for Value Added Tax (VAT) on the letter headed paper of the business
  • Evidence of tax payment or tax clearance of one of the trustees (this applies to non-governmental organisations)
  • Original Copies of the CAC registration documents for sighting
  • Company seal or stamp to be used on the FIRS TIN and VAT application form (compulsory for companies and Incorporated Trustees).


The registration process may take 3-5 working days, depending on the workload of the tax station.
